A photo redemption experience built for an Eli Lilly event, letting attendees register, personalize their event photo with a custom message, and receive it by email, in under 3 minutes. Designed and shipped in just 15 days using feedback from a previous event, the streamlined 4-step flow achieved an 85% redemption rate across 6,000 attendees.

The Problem

Event attendees would take photos at an Eli Lilly event and needed a way to register, personalize their photo with a custom message, and receive it by email, all within a 2-3 minute window before moving on with their day.

The real constraint wasn't the flow itself. It was time. 15 days, start to finish, informed by feedback from a previous event where users dropped off during a long, complicated registration process. There was no room for a second draft, whatever shipped had to work the first time, for 6,000 people.

My Approach

With 15 days and no margin for error, I made one rule: design only what the requirement demands, nothing more. I pulled feedback from the previous event to find exactly where people dropped off, then built backward from that.

Three decisions shaped the platform:

A strict 4-step linear flow: Register, select photo, customize, submit. No branching, no detours.

Real time sync photo gallery: Attendees picked their real time photo instead of uploading it, removing the biggest friction point from the last event.

Instant email confirmation: No "we'll send it later" uncertainty, guests saw their result land in their inbox within minutes.

The Solution

The final flow asked for almost nothing: name, email, and an invite code to register, followed by a one-click photo selection from the event gallery. Attendees picked from a small set of pre-designed templates and added a short personal message, then submitted, triggering an automated email with their photo and message, delivered within minutes.

Every unnecessary decision was removed. Fewer choices meant faster completion, and faster completion meant more people finished the flow instead of walking away.

The Impact

85% of the 6,000 attendees completed the full flow, well above the 45-60% typical for event experiences like this. Zero support tickets came in about the flow itself, which meant the design was clear enough that nobody needed help using it.

The gap between this and the previous event came down to one thing: cutting every step that wasn't essential to the requirement.

Key Learning

"Perfectionism kills deadlines. Clarity wins. With 15 days and 6,000 people, the job wasn't to design something impressive, it was to design something that couldn't be misunderstood."
